Continuous positive airway pressure (C.P.A.P) devices are used to treat O.S.A. patients by delivering positive airway. This enables patients to breathe more normally through their nose. Unfortunately, many patients do not tolerate CPAP devices. Alternative to the C.P.A.P. devices is Oral Appliance Therapy (O.A.T.). These appliances are mainly mandibular advancement devices. They are worn during sleep. These devices do keep the airway open while the patient is asleep.
Diagnosing and collecting data for patients with sleep disorders require testing for the disorder. Recently, there are more convenient, simpler diagnostic tests that are performed at the comfort of the patients own home. The two night’s home study test device is sent to the patient’s home. The device records the patients sleep cycles. Data is evaluated by a board certified sleep physician for diagnosis and report. This test is usually covered by most medical insurances (costs up to $200). Following this sleep test, diagnosis and report, Hilltop Dental can schedule the patient(s) to begin fabrication of the appropriate oral appliance.
